The release date of The Batman Part II, the sequel starring Robert Pattinson and directed by Matt Reeves, has been postponed. Let’s take a look at the reason for the postponement and the new release date.
Batman sequel postponed to 2026
We’ll see Superman again before Batman. Warner Bros. announced that The Batman Part II, the sequel to 2022’s The Batman, has been delayed from October 2025 to October 2026. So there will be a full 1 year delay.
News of the sequel first surfaced in April 2022, with the title and release date announced almost a year later. The date announced then was October 3, 2025. The exact date announced now is October 2, 2026.
Before the Batman sequel, we will see the Superman movie directed by James Gunn. The planned release date for the movie is July 11, 2025. The new Superman movie will be the first movie in the new DC universe.
Not much is known about The Batman Part II, only that Matt Reeves has been working on it for several years and that we will see Barry Keoghan as the Joker, a character who already appeared briefly in the first movie.
We also know that this Batman, reprised by Robert Pattinson, will not be the Batman of the DC Universe. Reeves’ films will be part of DC’s Elseworlds, a side story to the main story that allows for such movies, and will be set in the same universe as Joker: Folie a Deux will take place in the same universe.
Gunn and his team are planning to embark on a new Batman franchise based on The Brave and the Bold comics, directed by Andy Muschetti.
On October 3, 2025, the original release date for the Batman sequel, Warner Bros. will release Bride of Frankenstein. Also on August 8, 2025, the next film from director Paul Thomas Anderson, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, will be released.
No word on why Batman Part II has been delayed, but it’s certainly disappointing. What do you think? Please share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
